FAMILY PROMISE

Since 1997, CTSLC has been a temporary home for families experiencing homelessness, offering warm hospitality to our guests. We were one of three original congregations. 25 years!

Volunteers are the mainstay of the program, with congregations across the metro area, from Lakewood to Aurora, Littleton and Denver. The opportunities to participate are endless and rewarding.

For those not familiar with the program, the model that was interrupted by the pandemic, and has now resumed is the following:

Families arrive Sunday evening, are welcomed and shown to their home for the week. (Their belongings arrived early Sunday, along with the twin beds on which they sleep.) Evening meals are provided each night by our wonderful cooks. Volunteers spend the night, usually in our library. Every morning our van takes them to the Family Promise (FP) daysite. School, work or looking for housing are on their daily schedule. Each evening they return for a warm, delicious meal and visits with volunteers. The following Sunday, their belongings are packed up and sent to the next congregation. We warmly bid them goodbye.

Volunteers are needed for initial set-up of the bedrooms (our classrooms), evening meals, overnight hosts, groceries, van drivers, truck drivers to take beds and belongings to next congregation, laundering our bed linens

Approximately 50 volunteers are needed each week that we host the guest families. If you would like to learn more, please contact either Lori Hayes, Ruth Smeal or Betti Krapfl. Or log onto the website: www.familypromiseofgreaterdenver.org. There is a wealth of information about FP, “who we are, what we do, how it began, and services offered”.

Our next host week is April 14-20. We invite your participation for this outreach program. Come join us!
